The Hospital of Florina (1931)

The construction of the Hospital began in 1934 with a donation of 3,000 gold pounds from Eleni Th. Dimitriou. It opened in 1938 as a municipal hospital. From 1-10-1957 it was transferred to the state according to the Law 1952/57 and operated as public hospital under the supervision of the Ministry of Health & Welfare.
Since 2002 it has been operating as a decentralized unit of the PHWS Regional Health and Welfare System according to Law 2889/2001, which provides for the development of 120 beds as they are currently developed. The hospital is built in the north-eastern part of the city within the city plan of Florina.
In 1938, on a plot of land of 13,064.50 sq.m., the construction of a two-story building of 2,776.40 sq.m. was completed, which was used and is used for the needs of the main activity of the Hospital and a two-story guest house of 435 sq.m. for the accommodation needs of the staff. The guest house was subsequently used for the accommodation needs of Hospital activities. Today, after repair interventions in the building and its electromechanical equipment, the Artificial Kidney Unit is housed. Since 1986, with successive building additions up to 2000, an additional 5,500 sq. m. of building facilities were added and remodeling and renovations were carried out.
In addition, in 1998, a land area of 1,910 m² was expropriated in favour of the Hospital. Thus, the current situation of the Hospital in terms of land area is 14,975 m² in total and in terms of buildings a total of 8,500 m².
