Woman of Vevi

In the Park of the Railway Station of the city of Florina there is an impressive statue of a woman entitled “Woman of Vevi” or “Daughter of the North” or “Floriniotisha”. This work comes from the Florinian sculptor, Nikola Dogoulis. It was erected in 1964 and it is made of brass and what it represents is the anonymous woman who took part in the Macedonian War of Independence. In the face of this young woman, who is barefoot and dressed in a traditional costume, wearing a scarf in her hair, which is caught in braids, all the women of the region who participated in multiple roles in the Macedonian Struggle are reflected.
