Russian Soldier Monument

It is a monument which presents a Russian soldier. This man is wearing the uniform of the Russian soldiers of the First World War. He has a rucksack on his back, in his right hand he holds a large rifle with a spear placed upright on the ground, while in his left hand he has his pickaxe, which symbolizes that this man is mourning for the Russian soldiers who fell in the battle of Florina.
At the base of the monument we notice an inscription:
“TO THE RUSSIAN SOLDIERS OF THE MACEDONIAN FRONT OF THE WORLD WAR I WHO DIED IN THE BATTLE OF FLORINA IN SEPTEMBER 1916”
The monument is made of brass. The base and the column behind the monument and above where the symbols are located are made of marble. The height of the monument reaches 3.5 meters.
The erection of the monument was initiated by the former Consul General of Russia in Thessaloniki Alexei Popov. The monument is located in Marathonos Square in Florina.
The unveiling of the monument to the Russian soldier took place on Saturday 19 December 2015.
