Second Primary School of Florina (1909)

The foundation of the Primary School of the Orthodox Greek Community of Florina was established between the years 1871 – 1879 .
In the period 1905-1906, the residence of Izet-Pasa was purchased by the Greek community for the housing of the Arrenagogue(Boys school) and the Parthenagogue(Girls school)
In 1909, the new building of the Parthenagogue was built in the courtyard of the Arrenagogue. Its construction was made possible thanks to the sponsorship of the Mela Kindergarten Chamber. The building was insured by the English insurance company NORTHERN, for 12 par value.
The Parthenagogue also housed the Boarding School for the children of the victims of the Macedonian Struggle, which was formerly housed in the Pissoderi Monastic School.
From the year 1914 – 1915 it appears in the records as the Municipal School for Girls of Florina. In 1918, during the First World War, with the arrival of the Allied troops, the two schools were requisitioned by the French troops.
In 1922, a full six-form girls’ school was established and consisted of five teachers.
In 1929, the school was renamed the 2nd Sixth Small Elementary School of Florence.
During the occupation, the building was requisitioned and used as a barracks and material store. In the year 1943-1944, the school remained closed, while the following year it resumed its operation.
Today, it operates as a 12-seat all-day primary school.
