Residence of Stergios (Sterika) Koulis

The building at 46 Augoustinou Kantioti Street, allegedly owned by Stergios Koulis, was designated as a listed building as it is a traditional building with a remarkable architectural and morphological character.
It is a residential building, representing the traditional urban landscape of Florina associated with the historical phase of Florina in the interwar period.
Sterikas Koulis, born in Korytsa in 1921, is considered self-taught, with no formal university qualifications. He was one of the most active painters in Florina and the main contributor, together with Dimitris Kalamaras, to the foundation of the House of Artists and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Florina.
Sterikas was influenced by his reading of the paintings of the Impressionist period’s turn towards pictorial thought and phobia.
In 1973, he changed his stylistic style, as he did in 1980, with subject matter that would often focus on social awareness and pacifist movements. He made a great effort to emphasize the pedagogical role of artworks. His works are housed in the National Gallery, in Athens, in Thessaloniki and in private collections in Greece and abroad. He died in June 1995. His atelier in Florina was preserved as it was, and operates as a SMALL MUSEUM.
