Residence of Evangelos Filippidis (1912)

The residence was built before 1912 by the merchant and later member of the People’s Party Evangelos Fillipidis. His daughter was Margarita, the wife of Athanasios Rompapa.Margarita was very active in the war of the 40’s and was honoured for her action with the medals of the soldier’s jersey of the Ministry of National Defence and the Red Cross.
The morphology of the façade, with a clear eclecticism and symmetrical organization of the openings around the central vertical axis, which is marked by the small ornate balcony-balcony of the floor, which is made of cast iron and supported on monolithic frames.
The gallery space is also delimited by false pilasters, while the entrance is closed by a double-leaf wooden paneled doorway, where a circular skylight is formed a little higher up, an arrangement that is reminiscent of French classicism. Horizontal decorative frames separate the levels of the floors. The ground floor windows appear simple with a linear frame and a decorative key, while those on the first floor are particularly elaborate. In particular, the central exterior window is decorated with a curved pediment, while the two windows flanking it are crowned with triangular pediments.
The building has been preserved until today with alterations in the morphology of the façade, after the renovation of the interior – the closure of the portico and the removal of the central entrance. In the course of these works the mural of the staircase was destroyed.
The house was purchased in 1977 by George Dovas and has been carefully maintained to this day.
