Mountain Climbing

Mountaineering in Florina is the main (predominant) activity as the city is surrounded by mountains and numerous trails start from the city.
The hill of Agios Panteleimon is the emblem of Florina and the Cross on its top is imposing as it is gigantic and can be seen from afar as one approaches the city. There, a large number of mountaineers, hikers and walkers go up and down every day, enjoying either their hiking-walking walk or their training.
The horseshoe of mountains that surrounds the city of Florina continues from the hill of Agios Panteleimon to Panagitsa and Derveni up to Luntzer and Vigla, where there is the homonymous skiing centre. Throughout this side of the mountains there are many well-marked trails and routes for all levels. The forests, glades, ridge, and landscapes are of indescribable beauty and delight every walker.
To the north of the city stretches Tyma and Hill 1033. Taima (1654m) is the peak that the mountaineers of Florina love and on this mountain there are shelters that were built with great care. Organized shelters are the “Paleochori” built by the NCCF ( Nature-loving Climbing Club of Florina)and the “Christos Fatsis” in Oropedi, built by the SEO Florina. Both can accommodate people after contacting them of course. Another shelter is built at the location of Krias Vrisi by Charalambos Myronidis.
Beyond this horseshoe of mountains, one can walk from the village of Skopos to Mount Kaimaktsalan as well as to Mount Piperitsa.
