Florina’s Railway Station

The railway connection between Thessaloniki and Monastery, which dates back to June 1894, did not include our city. The extension of the line from Armenochori (Mesonisi) to Florina took place in 1931. The first train arrived in Florina on Friday 15 May 1931 and on the same day the inauguration of the new line took place with great pomp, in the presence of many officials and a large number of people.
The beautiful building of the railway station was erected immediately after the Second World War. In its place was the old station building, which was built in 1929-1931 and was destroyed on 28-7-1944 when, during the German occupation, Allied planes bombed the specific area of Florina, where German troops and war material were located. The present building is in excellent condition.
For the sake of history, it is worth noting that before 1931, Floridians who wanted to travel by train, went to the station of Mesonissi with carriages of the time, the famous ladoes.
The railway connection between Florina and other cities, which was established about 125 years ago, serves thousands of our fellow citizens every year, as well as travellers from various other parts of our country and abroad.
