Minaret

The base of the minaret of Yakub Bey or Carsi Cami is the only survival of the seven mosques that existed in the city of Florina until 1924. According to local tradition, it was built on the site of a Christian temple, it was the central mosque of the city and included a tekke of the Halveti dervishes, a guest house of the tekke, a madrasa and a cemetery, with the final image of a religious complex. The minaret is preserved at a height of 3. 40 meters from the ground and is carefully constructed with a distinct brick enclosed building system. In reality, however, the coating shapes the external surfaces and masks the weaknesses of an inferior construction.
Morphological examples can be traced that reinforce the view of the foundation of the mosque in the years after the conquest (1385-1386) at the seat of the homonymous sanjak.
However, the construction of the minaret must be dated to the middle of the 18th century and attributed to some phase of renovation of the
mosque.
