Papagianni’s Folklore Collection

The settlement Papagianni is one of the largest in the plain of Florina and is 14km away. With evidence of human presence from prehistoric times, as well as from later historical periods, the settlement preserves several elements of the traditional way of life, both in its architectural physiognomy and in the customary and social life of its inhabitants (Karantoni & Papaioannou, 2009). The collection of traditional costumes displayed by the dance groups of the Municipality is interesting.
The Papagianni Cultural Association managed, through the long-lasting effort of its members, to preserve and collect several objects of the popular culture of the region by organizing a small Folklore Collection (Karantoni & Papaioannou, 2009).
The objects of the collection cover a wide range of activities of the rural community of Papagianni, while the old photographs provided by the inhabitants describe in the most vivid way the small traditional society and the way its activities were organized during the last century.
The collection is housed in the old primary school which has been renovated to a significant extent through the Florina Folklore Collections Network, which, due to the existence of a single room, can be the shell for a complete museum exhibition (Papakiriakou, 2015).
