Folklore Collection of the “Aristotelis” Educational Association of Florina

The Educational Association of Florina “Aristotelis” was founded in June 1941 by young people who had written the Albanian epic in the Albanian mountains, that is, they created one of the first cells of national resistance, especially against the Bulgarian expansionism, with their main weapon being culture (song, dance, visual arts, etc.). Since then until today the association has been developing cultural activities in the city of Florina (Karantoni & Papaioannou, 2009). Among its various activities, the creation of a library and a folklore collection is included.
The folklore collection of the cultural association, Educational Association of Florina “Aristotelis” is the oldest folklore collection in the region of Florina. Today, it is housed on the top floor of a privately-owned building in the historical centre of the city, next to the river. All other activities of the Cultural Association are also housed in this building.
The collection presents the autonomy of a regional museum unit, with representative material that fully records the image of the traditional way of life and organization of a multi-populated society such as Florina. It is probably the largest collection of the Florina Network in terms of objects. It is of particular interest as it is able to capture various categories of objects (Papakiriakou, 2015).
