Folklore Collection of Drosopigi

Drosopigi is located on Mount Vitsi, 14 km from Florina.
The folklore collection was created by the members of the Cultural Association of Drosopigi “Progress” in 1987 and was housed in the old community hall of Drosopigi in the centre of the village.
The mission of the museum responsible for this collection is to preserve, record and document objects from the folk culture. All the exhibits are from the ruined villages of Drosopigi (which is in a different location from the present village) and Elatia.
The letters from the period of the Macedonian Indepedence War (including those of Pavlos Melas), the Holy Gospels (some of which were printed in a Greek printing house in Venice in 1860) and the identity cards from the New Society of Friends, which was active during the Macedonian War, are impressive.
Also on display are men’s and women’s traditional clothing, household utensils, traders’ tools (mainly the building trade), jewellery, church furniture, icons, old books, an excellent collection of photographs depicting scenes from village life in past decades and numerous documents that give an insight into the history of the village in the 19th and 20th centuries.
The number of items ranges from 3500-4000 and are housed in a small local museum with two small exhibition halls.
