The artificial lake – Kolchiki Dam

The artificial lake of the Kolchiki dam is located 11 km south of the city of Florina, through the homonymous settlement of Kolchiki.
The construction of the dam was completed in 2009 in Lykorema, Florina, by the Region of Western Macedonia. The reservoir of Kolchiki, together with the dam of Triantafyllia, which is located a short distance away, was created for the water supply and irrigation of the settlements of the region.
It is an artificial lake of unparalleled natural beauty and is ideal for a variety of activities. Although the lake appears to be hidden and protected, it is easily accessible from the city of Florina through the settlement of Kolchiki, 4 km away, or through the settlement of Ano Ydrousa, 2,5 km away.
Every summer there is a carp fishing competition organised by the Florina Amateur Fishermen’s Sports Association (FAFSA), while in winter many hunters flood the area.
The relatively small size of the lake, make it an ideal destination for those who love hiking or cycling, so that they can go around the lake, a route of about 3 km, following the shoreline around the lake, in a beautiful oak forest.
