Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary – Polypatomos

In 1913 the Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary was built in a central point of the village. In 1927 the village was given the name of Polypotamos and in fact from here onwards the parish of Polypotamos was formed with a parish church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary. It is a three-aisled basilica with a chamfered roof, with Byzantine character in the icons of the iconostasis and impressive artistic mood of the builders with carved stone.
The apse of the sanctuary is semi-hexagonal on the outside. The turreted bell tower is in contact with the axis of the west side, where the main entrance is located.
Another entrance is on the meridian side at a higher point, due to the difference in elevation (the slope of the ground).
The women’s gallery is located on the west side and has a <<P>> plan.
The nave of the church is elevated and, like the side aisles, has a flat roof. The interior of the church is lit by large rectangular windows located high up on the long sides.
The devotion of the inhabitants to the Virgin combined with their faith also provided miracles that have unfortunately not been recorded
