Church of St. Athanasios (Agios Athanasios) Polypotamos.

In 1740-1760 the Church of St. Athanasiοs was built on the north side of the village.It is a three-aisled wooden-roofed basilica with a chamfered roof and a newer narthex.
The apse of the church is externally decorated with the well-known relief niches. Of particular interest is the form of the women’s balcony. The entrance of the temple is located on its southern side. On the outside of the sanctuary’s apse there are seven blind arches.
This church is semi-subterranean (at least one metre below the surface of the courtyard) and its characteristics are the famous decoration of the carved wooden ceiling, the imposing pulpit, the carved wooden iconostasis with icons dating back to 1845. A date that is distinguished by the engraving done on them.
The church is built with stone. The roof was also made of stone but due to its destruction today it is tiled.
The floor was also made of stone slabs, today they are preserved only in the area of the Narthex (narthex). In its original form, the bell tower, which is just a few meters next to the Church, is preserved intact from time.
