Drosopigi (Belkamen, Balkameni)

Drosopigi is 13 km. from Florina, is located at an altitude of 13 km. 1.000 μ.
It is inhabited by 105 people in winter and 300 in summer who are builders, farmers and foresters.
It was founded by groups chased by Ali Pasha who arrived in the area of Konitsa, where they stayed for 40 years.They moved to the old Drosopigi in 1844.
In 1944 it was destroyed by the Germans, rebuilt, evacuated again and finally rebuilt in its present location.
The natural environment is particularly rich. The springs are numerous and scattered.
Famous ones are those of the old village and the Mill of Stylo (1.5 km outside the village).
This mill was built in 1852 from the stones of Drosopigi, it is a domed building inside and is kept in excellent condition.
The Drosopigiotiko river with its 3 tributaries passes through the area. It originates from the outskirts of Vitsi and flows into Axios.
The peak of Vitsio at 2,200 m offers a wonderful view of the entire plateau of Florina. The route is smooth, one encounters oxy-oak forests, alders, wild herbs, aromatic plants, etc.
The visitor should visit the bridge leading to the old Drosopigi 1 km from the village. It is made of stone and was built in 1852 by local craftsmen.
On the day of the Holy Spirit there is an annual festival in the central square, with the participation of dance groups and various events.
On the Sunday of Tyre, the bonfire is lit. The local Christmas and New Year carols are interesting.
In the village there is a Historical-Laographic Museum.
In the village of Drosopigi and in the wider area of Vitsi, remarkable hagiographic activities, in folk style, were developed by amateur painters.
