Residence of Papalazarou Brothers

The two-story building that has been preserved to this day, at the junction of Prespes and Major Fouledakis Streets, makes a great impression.
The building was built in 1929, originally as a two-family house with shops on the ground floor.
The original owners were the Papalazarou brothers.
Characteristic is the extension of the building on Major Fouledaki Street with repetition of the type resulting in the formation of this triple dwelling with shops on the ground floor can be considered as a typology of a house with horizontal development.
The angular position of the plot led to a variation of the twin building typology. The ground floor is organized by the in-line arrangement of shops on the building line. The faithful application of the design plans is impressive; the desire for uniform treatment of the two symmetrical facades led to the solution of a niche construction. Above the entrance to Prespa Street, in correspondence with the arched equal-sized window of the other side. Today this niche is decorated by a statue, probably of Apollo holding a lyre, and follows the model of the marble adriad of Apollo in the precinct of the Athens Academy on the University Street, the work of the sculptor Leonidas Drosis circa 1970.
