Due to the rich lignite deposits in the region, the steam power plant of PPC A.E.S. Meliti – Achlada with a total capacity of 330MW was constructed and operates. In 1986 it started to operate in the Industrial Area of Florina, as in the wider region companies are active in the sectors of production, manufacturing, trade, services and in particular in the sectors of food, beverages, soft drinks and natural carbonated water, furniture, wood, metal, construction, transport etc. An important role in the local economy is played by the town’s shops, which provide a wide range of goods to residents and visitors to the town. The most famous local products of Florina are the red peppers of Florina, the traditional spoon sweets, the beans of Prespes and the famous local wines.
