The church of St. George(Agios Georgios) and the chapel of St. George (Agios Georgios) in Tropaiouchos, Florina

Just 5 km from Florina is the village of Tropaiouchos. Both churches of the village are dedicated to Agios Georgios. The older church of 1919 is a three-aisled basilica with a gable roof. It is the main church of the village, where the faithful worship on Sundays. During the Turkish occupation the holy and miraculous icon of Agios Georgios was kept there. The local tradition says that Turks removed the icon from there and threw it into the neighbouring river. The icon, however, miraculously returned to its place unharmed and intact.
There are also relics from the Kars region of Pontus, such as a woven epitaph and two banners, and an additional epitaph from the region of Kouvuklia in Central Asia.
At a distance of 300 meters from the main church, there is the chapel of St. George. Inside the church there is a sacred tomb. Tradition says that there were many horses there which were saved by the miraculous intervention of St. George. Many believers go to lie down on the tomb, which is said to perform many miracles on the sick and possessed. Tradition has it that if a person attends three consecutive prayers and sleeps inside the chapel, the saint appears and heals them.
