The artificial lake – Papadia – Skopos Dam

At a distance of 25 km from the city of Florina, at the foot of Mount Voras (Kaimaktsalan) is the village of Skopos. Continuing on the road towards the mountain and at a distance of about 8 km we will meet the dam of Papadia – Skopos.
At an altitude of 928 meters, in 2008 the construction of the dam was completed, interrupting the flow of Geropotamos, the new artificial lake was formed very close to the ruins of the abandoned village of Papadia, offering the area a new beautiful and enchanting place.
It is 57 metres high, the diaphragm wall is 40320 m2 and the catchment area is 77 Km2. The dam was constructed by the PPC, in order to serve the operational needs of the Meliti – Achlada Waterworks, the irrigation of the crops of the wider area, the water supply of the neighbouring villages and the enrichment of the aquifer, as a permanent ecological flow.
The existence of the mountain around the lake and the lake itself is reminiscent of beautiful Alpine landscapes and lakes that the region has nothing to envy
Around the dam, the asphalt road leads us to the chapel of Agios Nikolaos Papadia.
The wider area of Papadia is ideal for a nature getaway with plenty of activities Mountaineers, cyclists, 4×4 vehicles through the paths, exploring routes to the Farmakis huts, the Romanian School, the Turkish shelter, etc.
