Naum Haris residence (1873)

The residence  Naum Haris is located in the district of Varosi, on Eleftherias Avenue. The large mansion house was built in 1873, by the family of Naum Haris and belongs to the type of residence with an interior sofa (central hall), with a raised ground floor and basement.
It has a north orientation, is corner and freely placed on the plot, there are a large number of openings on the other two sides. In the centre of the main façade, one can see the triangular decorative pediment, which is a particular morphological element of the symmetrical mansions in the Varosi area. The absolute symmetry that characterizes the mansion is the basic principle of the organization of the exterior of the 19th century houses in the city of Florina.
The windows are symmetrical both in terms of the plan of the rooms and their height. The mansion was inhabited by the family of Naum A Haris, who at that time, in 1873, spent a large sum of money on its construction, paying handsomely to craftsmen and masons from Constantinople. Later, the house was used as a military hospital by the French during the stay and action of the French troops in the area (1916-1918). The first summer cinema opened in the courtyard of the Haris house in 1919. This was the ‘APOLLONA’, the first cinema in Florina, which operated only when the weather permitted.
