Church of Agia Paraskevi (St.Paraskevi) – Florina

In the north-east of the city of Florina is the church of Agia Paraskevi, originally on Eleni Dimitriou Street and near the camp there was an iconostasis of Agia Anna. An icon and a candelabra in the wilderness
In 1933, the area began to change and experience a large increase in population as the refugee settlement of Monastiri was being constructed. The Monastiri refugees also demanded to have a church near their settlement. With the help of the army, in 1934, the small church of Agia Paraskevi was built. It was a chapel of St. George.
In 1961, Agia Paraskevi became a parish and Metropolitan Basil decided to build a larger church. The foundation of the new church was laid on July 26, 1966, on the feast day of Agia Paraskevi.
In 1967, the new Metropolitan Augoustinos Kantiotis continued the construction of the new church, the inauguration of which took place on July 26, 1974. It is the largest church in Florina.
In the church of Agia Paraskevi there is also the large icon of the Virgin Mary of Pelagonitissa, which was hagiographed faithfully like the original icon found in the Monastery of Sinai. In addition, in the church of Agia Paraskevi there is also the chapel of Agia Hypomania.
Saint Paraskevi is celebrated on the 26th of July.
