Florina spoon sweets

Florina is known all over Greece for its polar temperatures, for its beautiful delicious red peppers, for its natural beauties and of course for its famous spoon sweets. It has historically been a specialty of Florina, and it continues to be so to this day. We see and enjoy the visitors of our city, from different regions of Greece, crowding outside the shops in order to choose the famous Florina spoon sweets.
Spoon sweets were created thousands of years ago, out of the need of households to preserve the excess fruit of production. Since ancient times, housewives have been trying to invent various ways of preserving them, either by drying them in the sun, or by preserving them in syrup, after boiling the fruit or in jams. They were called “spoon” because they were served in a large bowl with many spoons or in small serving dishes, of course with a small spoon.
Spoon sweets were the most welcome treat for all households and the guests seemed to enjoy them very much. Famous spoon sweets of Florina are fig, walnut, rose, strawberry, wild cherry, chestnut, etc.
