The sour waters of the Municipality of Florina

The mineral waters of Florina have been famous since ancient times. Aristotle, the greatest philosopher of antiquity, from Stagira in Halkidiki in “Meteorological 2” writes: “and the acid water is also around the Lygkos fountain”. Lygkos or Lyggestida was in ancient times the current prefecture of Florina. Today the soft drinks of Florina, oranges, lemonades, sour cherries, sodas, sodas with the sour water of our region are well-known throughout Greece because they are delicious, digestible and unique in their kind. This is due to the waters containing carbonic acid and being carbonated.
Wells with sour water exist mainly in Papagianni and other nearby villages, in Itia but also in Mesochori on the west side of the village, there is a well. There is also a spring in Palestra which dries up in the summer. In 1968, the first soft drink bottling factory was established in the village of Papagiannis under the name “PAPAGIANNI”. In 1971, a second bottling plant was built in Papagianni under the name “AIDINIOU”, which was closed in 1996 and moved to Albania. In 1983, a new factory was built in Papagianni, under the name “DINAKI”. Finally, in 1969, a new soft drink bottling factory was opened in Itea under the name “ITEA”.
